The onions will protect your plants from insects and diseases. As the onion grows, cut the green part with ciscors in small pieces and through those small pieces in the garden. Repeat when the onions grown some more green stem. I do that all the time and it works great.
Another use for onion, is to cut them in small pieces and boil them. Then strain them. Put the liquide in a spay bottle and spray your plants. This will kill the parasites and fungus on your plants. I did that method last summer with my raspberry plants. My raspberry plants were not producing any raspberries because or white curl grubs. After doing this method every single day, after two weeks, my garden came back to life and I continued doing this method about three a week. After that healing process, my plants started to produce beautiful raspberries. Happy ending.
My Experience with White Curl Grubs
I was so happy when my neighbour gave me that mulch from there tree they cut down. They said they had to cut the tree down because the tree was dead. What I did not know, was, the mulch from that tree was infected with those white curl grubs.
White curl grubs are curly larvae or cockchafer beetles. They are fleshy and curl up like a "C" and have orange-brown heads. These grubs look like shrimps measuring up to 1 inche long. I learned, they live in the soil near the base of plants and like to eat plant roots causing plants to die. Plants start off by wilting.
If you have brown spots or spots of died grass on your lawn, these white curl grubs are the cause. You can easily fix that with daily onion solution for at least two weeks. Garlic would work too.
From my experience of my neighbour who gave me this mulch, I learned to refine my gardening skills. Gardening is not just about planting seeds and harvesting the goods. Gardening is also protecting the plants from diseases and insects. My experience thought me that, if someone has a tree that died, it's because there was a reason for the death, such as a disease or insects that cause the death of the tree. If it killed the tree, then whatever that is, it's in the tree too, and it will kill everything in your garden, unless you take daily action at killing the disease. Is that what you want?
Great companions for the onion are: all the brassicas, beets, lettuce, tomatoes, summer savory, leeks, kohlrabi, dill, lettuce, strawberries and tomatoes. Onions will help with the health of strawberries, and protect the strawberries from disease and repel ants. Fresh cut up garlic place at the base of the strawberry plants will keep the aunts away. You need to repeat this garlic treatment every three day. Garlic goes hand in hand with onions for natural pesticide and fertilizer.
These are not companions for the onion: peas, beans, and parsley.
